Terms of Service

Terms for using the Codex Skin catalog, local Builder, Theme Recipes, waitlist, and submission flow.

Last updated: 2026-07-18

Acceptance

By accessing or using codex-skin.app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

Codex Skin is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI.

Current service

The public service currently provides:

  • a catalog of Codex Desktop skin concepts and related source information;
  • a browser-local image preview Builder;
  • data-only Theme Recipe JSON export;
  • restoration and safety information;
  • a waitlist; and
  • a reviewed community submission flow.

The current Theme Recipe is not an installable package. It does not include the selected image and does not establish compatibility with any Codex Desktop version.

No account or payment is required for these public features. If paid products, accounts, installation packages, or subscriptions are introduced, the applicable terms and disclosures must be presented before those features are offered.

Concepts, verification, and compatibility

A page labelled Concept, Preview only, Community submission, or Untested is not a promise that the theme can be installed or safely used.

A theme should be treated as verified only when the page provides supporting evidence such as a tested Codex version, upstream commit, operating system, verification date, artifact, checksum, and restoration procedure. Absence of that evidence means you must not rely on the theme as verified.

Codex Desktop and upstream projects can change without notice. Back up relevant files and review restoration instructions before applying any third-party modification. You are responsible for deciding whether a modification is appropriate for your device and software version.

Acceptable use

You may not use the site to:

  • violate applicable law or third-party rights;
  • submit material you do not have the right to share;
  • misrepresent authorship, license, compatibility, testing, or installation results;
  • upload or submit malware, secrets, credentials, private keys, or harmful instructions;
  • probe, disrupt, overload, or bypass the site's security or rate limits; or
  • use automated systems in a way that materially interferes with the service.

Community submissions

You retain ownership of material you submit. You grant Codex Skin a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to review, reproduce, resize, format, and display the submitted preview and metadata for catalog review and publication.

You represent that your submission is accurate and that you have the rights needed to provide the source, preview, instructions, and attribution. You must disclose relevant authors, repositories, licenses, and dependencies.

Submission does not guarantee review, approval, publication, continued listing, verification, or promotion. We may edit metadata for clarity, request evidence, label a submission as untested, reject it, or remove it when safety, accuracy, rights, or maintenance concerns arise.

Third-party projects and links

The catalog may link to GitHub repositories, creators, installation tools, documentation, or other third-party services. Those resources are controlled by their respective owners. A link or attribution does not mean Codex Skin controls, endorses, audits, or guarantees the third party.

Names, logos, screenshots, and other third-party materials remain the property of their respective owners and are used only as permitted by applicable rights, licenses, or nominative reference principles.

Availability and changes

We may change, suspend, or remove site features or catalog entries. We do not promise uninterrupted availability, permanent storage of a submission, a launch date for planned features, or continued compatibility with third-party software.

Disclaimer

The site, concepts, previews, Recipes, links, and documentation are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the extent permitted by law, Codex Skin disclaims implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation.

Nothing on the site is professional legal, security, or system-administration advice.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Codex Skin and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, software configuration, revenue, or business opportunity arising from use of the site or a third-party modification.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to be responsible for claims arising from material you submit, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of another party's rights.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the service changes. The updated date above shows the latest published revision. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
